One thing we’ve learned through more than a decade of Chalk Art Festivals is that we couldn’t do it without volunteers. Laying out artist squares, making sure artists have all the supplies they need, and interacting with the public; we need your help! And while the artwork is grand, we don’t want to lose sight of the fact that we do it all to draw attention to children in foster care and the families caring for them.

Meet the Volunteers: The Reudter Family

Volunteering at the annual Chalk Art Festival has become a family tradition for Jenefer and Jamy Reudter and their four daughters. Now, they serve as volunteer coordinators for Utah Foster Care’s signature event. The Reudters sat down to talk about why they volunteer.

You asked why our family volunteers for Utah Foster Care. That’s a loaded question! We asked that question to our daughters, 15-year-old Mallory, 13-year-old Gabby, 10-year-old Morgan, and 6-year-old Phebe. Here’s what they said:

  • Volunteering for UFC is a way for us to give back to the community because we believe in a great organization that supports families.
  • Because we want other children to have what our family has: relationships as parents and children – that can create memories that last a lifetime.
  • Because there are fabulous people who work for UFC and they take pride in the awesome organization!
  • Because it gives us a sense of belonging—not just in a family; we can help so many children to feel a part of an even larger family—Utah Foster Care!

We look forward to the Chalk Art every year and always know that it will be on Father’s Day weekend. We schedule the Chalk Art Festival into the family schedule and enjoy the opportunity to volunteer as a family and love the feeling of giving back.
